Intercru: Where are you from? Where do you live/ work now?

Jenny: I am originally from Russia and came to Germany in 2001. Currently I live and work in Dresden.

How did you first get into photography?

This is a very good question. My first experiences with photography were when I was a child. My grandparents had a polaroid camera back then and I have been using it since. Later in my teenage years I started to take pictures of landscapes and architecture. About 3-4 years ago a friend gave me an analogue camera, a Nikon F-501. This was the start of my analogue portrait journey.

What is the feeling you like to express with your creative work?

As a confident, rational, and direct person I want to express these attributes through my creative work. My style is minimalistic, always placing the model in the center which places full attention on them. Through perspective, strong contrasts, and the black and white film I want to show that everyone can be strong and confident.

Where do you find inspiration for your work?

In my opinion it’s possible to get inspired in so many ways! I often get inspiration from music, fashion magazines, and different places. It’s like seeing a double colored wall; immediately an idea for a photo comes up.

What’s your favorite part about photography and going on photoshoots?

Every film has only a limited number of images. Therefore, as an analogue portrait photographer, I must pay attention to every single detail before taking a shot. It fascinates me that this simple technology requires me to work very efficient; every shot is precious and needs to be placed well. This makes the whole working process, from the first idea to the finished image, more efficient. My favorite part about photography, a very personal one.

Besides that, I love meeting new people and to connect with them….many models have become very good friends! Everyone has a unique story to tell and to be fair, I enjoy hanging out with people while taking good pictures of them. This helps me with my own personal development whilst offering inspiration for my photography.

What is your favorite subject to photograph?

I love to take editorial/fashion portraits of people.
