Intercru: Where are you from? Where do you live and work now?

Rudy: I’m from Paris, France and I still live here now.

How long have you been taking photos? What was your first camera?

I started photography 5 years ago. My first camera was my iPhone and then my friends gave me a camera for my birthday. It was a Canon G5X. I still have it.

But quickly, I was frustrated and wanted to go further. So I invested in a slightly more expensive camera and little by little I bought equipment. I always tried to have good material for what I wanted to do. I researched for a long time... I took the time and today I’m happy with what I have.

What do you do to find creative inspiration?

I look at a lot of pictures on Pinterest and Instagram. I follow photographers who inspire me. Cinema and TV shows also inspire me a lot because I love studying the photography in them. I also go to a lot of exhibitions and mainly photography exhibitions. Photographers’ books and magazines inspire me a lot too. I really like to buy them and hang around in Parisian bookstores to browse.

What are the types of emotions you try to convey in your photos?

I always try to have a natural and spontaneous side. I need the photo to speak to me, to evoke something, a story or just a moment. Something so we can imagine how I arrived at this image. I also like being able to improvise with what I have around me. Sometimes I do it too much, but it often results in interesting things.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received about photography?

Do what you love. Find your world and go all out. It’s not easy, I would say it’s maybe the most difficult thing to do.

For me the photo is not a question of material or money (even if it is important) but more a question of universe. But today with all the images that we see everyday, it’s very difficult to find your universe because we are very often confronted with others and that calls us into question. You have to stick to who you are and what you can do. Above all, brands want to be associated with a universe. It is the main thing to work on and maintain to stand out. But it is also what takes the most time. Photography is art and art is being different.
