Intercru: Where are you from?
Hector: I am Mexican, from the city of Guadalajara.
Where do you live and work now?
At the moment I still live in the city of Guadalajara, and my work is also based here at the moment.
How did you get started as a photographer?
I was curious about photography from a young age; I remember seeing people with cameras and taking photos caught my attention. I think I discovered that I wanted to get involved in photography and cinema around the age of 17. I wanted to be a filmmaker but back then it was a bit expensive so I thought it would be a good idea to just introduce myself into photography.
When I was in high school a good friend came up to me one day and gave me a CD that contained a basic photography course that he had downloaded and recorded on that CD since I told him that one day that I wanted to be a photographer.
Shortly after I started working, I saved some money and bought my first camera, the same one that I carried everywhere and took photos of absolutely everything. Over time my technical way was changing and improving and I met friends who invited me to work on photography projects. One day I realized that photography was my official job.
What do you do to find creative inspiration?
I try to keep my mind creative and cultivated, and I try to think of moments or images in my head that I would like to see. Sometimes I just go walking, listen to some music and many ideas come to my head.
I think inspiration can come to me anywhere or at any moment. I try to find or create those moments to continue having all that creative brainstorming about me.
What are the types of emotions that you try to convey in your photos?
I think that an important part of my photography is linked to the most delicate feelings, such as self-love and vulnerability. I like to convey self-love or even a moment of peace when I look at my photographs and understand the intimate moment of each photo. But still people are free to have their own emotion when looking at a photograph. In the end, whoever manages to get a feeling when seeing a photograph of mine, whatever it is, I am glad to know that I managed to provoke some feeling about that person.
What is your favorite part of photography?
My favorite part of photography is exploring within yourself what you can do and imagine all those ideas in your head and carry them out. Plus I love the satisfaction of meeting people from all over, people with different ways of thinking and all the good friends that are made along the way.
Everything is an experience and I think my favorite part is everything that is involved in the art of photography.
