Intercru: Where are you from?

Gustavo: I’m from Caracas, Venezuela.

Where do you live and work now?

I currently live in Valencia, Venezuela and I work as a freelance photographer at the moment.

How did you get started in photography? What was your first camera?

It’s funny because in college I failed photography class three times in a row...not because I was bad at it but I was very lazy at the time. Fast forward three years later and I was working in a photo studio with a photographer that helped me a lot. I still admire him to this day and he is the person who gave me the push to start with photography. From then on I started practicing by myself with friends for portraits and taking pictures of still life.

My first camera is the one I still use to this day, a Canon T3i for digital and a Canon EOS Rebel 1000 for film.

What really makes you happy?

Just to be around friends and the people I love, as simple as that… and also when Liverpool wins. Football makes me happy.

What’s your favorite season of the year?

Christmas, for sure.

What’s your favorite movie or TV show right now?

I’m currently watching Parks and Recreation for the second time but if I could recommend a series it would be Breaking Bad and then Better Call Saul.

Who knows you the best?

My mom.

What was your first job?

I worked as a community manager at a small agency, and I worked at a travel agency as a content creator until the pandemic began.

Where do you find creative inspiration?

I think mostly in real life and memories that I have of specific things, rather than from a movie or a post on Instagram or Pinterest.

In 1 sentence, how would you describe your work?

Staying true to myself.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose?

Does it have to be just one place? I’ll name my top five places to live:

  • Bali

  • Madrid

  • Prague

  • Capri

  • Caracas

Who is your biggest hero?

My mom and dad.
