Tom Manthey

Intercru spoke with German photographer Tom Manthey about his work and passion. Read more to see some of his portrait photography.

Intercru: Where are you from? Where do you live and work now?

Tom: I am from Rostock, a small town on the Baltic Sea in northeast Germany. I also live and work there.

How did you get started in photography?

I started photography when I was a teenager. My friend and I were inline skating and we started taking pictures of each other while we grinded rails or jumped down the stairs with our skates.

What do you do to find creative inspiration?

I am addicted to Instagram, and this is where I get most of my inspiration from.

Who is your biggest inspiration?

My favorite photographers are Paul Ripke and Andre Josselin.

How would you define your creative style?

I like the older, dark, and grainy photos. I like the interesting light at sundown with these purple and orange colors and I try to catch these moments but I would say there is no special style I choose.
