Daniel Rericha
“It’s beautiful everywhere. I like the landscape around my home and I wouldn’t exchange that for anything.”
Intercru: Where are you from? Where do you live and work now?
Daniel: I was born and live in Krupka near Teplice, a small town in the foothills of the Ore Mountains (Czech Republic).
Not far from where I live are some lovely beech forests, beautiful landscapes in the Bohemian Central Mountains, and also to the Czech-Saxon Switzerland National Park. These are the places where I take photos most often. I am a professional landscape photographer for more than 10 years and I have been organizing landscape photography workshops as well.
When did you get started with photography?
As a child I loved landscapes. I like traveling and finding new and interesting places. As almost every person, I took a camera for almost every trip and vacation to make interesting shots of different places. So at the beginning I was just traveling with compact camera.
I started to think more about photography in 2000. At that time I got a book about photography as a gift and a few months later I bought my first film camera- a Pentax. I enter the world of digital photography 4 years later and at the beginning of 2006 I had my first digital camera which was a Canon. I was completely absorbed by photography and from that time every trip and vacation is revolved around photography.
For you, what makes the perfect photo?
A perfect photo must have an interesting composition, atmosphere, and most importantly, the right light.
I like symmetry, clarity, and simplicity. I try to get all those aspects to my images. Also important is the distinctive foreground of the photo (ie blooming flowers, an interesting stone, or some structure).
What has been the most beautiful place you've ever been to?
This is difficult to answer. It’s beautiful everywhere. I like the landscape around my home and I wouldn’t exchange that for anything, but I was amazed by the Dolomites in Italy and by Iceland.
Do you plan out the photos that you take or all they all spontaneous?
I think that it is necessary to think about the image. Sometimes it just one step, a bit of different angle, time of exposure or choice of shutter speed that can really change a future image. When I am going to a specific place, I am mostly prepared and I have an idea how I want my image to turn out. Of course sometimes it is necessary to improvise because one thing is an idea, but reality could be different.
If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?
I would like to visit Iceland again and a big dream of mine is to visit Los Glaciares National Park with the rock massifs of Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre in South America.
