I was born in the south of the Netherlands, but as I child we moved around a lot through the country from the south to the north. I think due to that I am used to a bit of a nomad live and I never really attached or stayed anywhere for to long.

At the moment I am living in Porto in the north of Portugal but I work a lot outside of Portugal. I have been here for a while now and I love Portugal because it has captured my heart but I am still figuring out where to base myself in future for the long term.

I worked as a designer before doing photography. I worked a long time for several brands and retail chains in the Netherlands until accidentally I discovered the photography part of fashion.

One day I rented a camera and asked a friend of mine to model for me and we shot some pieces of my own designs in a small local studio. And from that moment on I knew this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

Photography makes me deeply happy. I never did design work with my heart; it was a way of making a living but photography is something that comes from inside, without any rationality or deep thinking. For me it is a feeling and very intuitive.

I think I find my inspiration everywhere, but unconsciously. Everything I experience, see, feel, or pass by goes to a place in my mind and mingles together into a feeling.

But I know I am inspired a lot by the strength and beauty of women and nature. I think this is something that you will always see in my work.

I also have a big connection to Parisian brands such as IRO and Isabel Marant- they both show a silhouette of us females in a very sensual and elegant way, but at the same time strong and with a touch of the 70’s. I think that is who I am as a woman as well.

I want to reflect and show the beauty of us women, the strength we have and the elegancy. Inside I am a bit of a feminist and I still feel we have to fight for some rights, which is fine and makes us the strong beings that we are.

We have so much to offer that is still not ‘getting out there’ and that can make the world a better place. More balanced, more calm and at peace, more beautiful.

My favourite part about photography is that you always-every time- can create something new. You can execute a new idea, a new vision, work with new people, adopt a new style, a new location etc.

Every time that I am doing a shoot it is new and a change. Change for me is progression. It makes you richer as a person and challenges you to go forward and create.
