Marco Krueger

Featured interview with German photographer Marco Krueger, the king of analog film

Intercru: Where are you from?

Marco: I was born in a small town close to Berlin ( 1.5 hours drive with a car).

Where do you live and work now?

I have been based in Berlin for 20 years now.

I work in the movie industry, mostly doing original sound as a boom operator/sound assistant. For some directors I take film stills as well.

I have been working in Berlin / Germany / Europe and all over the world, if someone needs to shoot their movie somewhere.

Most of the pictures that you can see on my Instagram were taken in Berlin.

How did you get started in photography?

Classic: my father gave me his old 35mm Praktica with some lenses, and my fire for taking pictures was burning.

I was doing a lot of bad pictures (technical-wise) for many years. At some point, everything went well. I’m just fucking in love with analog pictures.

What type of camera and lens do you like to use?

Mostly I shoot with the Pentax 67, 105mm f/2.4 and 165mm f/2.8 medium format.

For 35mm, I’m using a lot my Contax G1 with the 28mm f/2.8 and the 90mm f/2.8 lenses.

I also own a Mamiya z67 Pro, and a Hasselblad 503cw and many different Nikons.

Who is your biggest inspiration?

I’m inspired in many ways of natural things. I’m always trying to shoot people in unagitated moments. I want to come down, while shooting on film.

How would you define your creative style?

I don’t know, in this fast world, shooting interesting people on film is kind of magic for me. I’m just in love with it....
