Lauren Spitznagel
“I absolutely love shooting film; I love how raw and imperfect it is.”
Intercru: Where are you from?
Lauren: I’m originally from Toronto, Canada.
Where do you live and work now?
Last year I moved to Paris, France, so now I live and work between Paris and Toronto.
How did you get started in photography?
About six years ago, I was working in a much different industry that was both uninspiring and stressful. I took up photography as a way to relax at the end of the day and stay motivated.
At first, I thought it was just going to be a fun hobby, but I ended up loving to shoot so much that it became full-time.
Who is your biggest inspiration?
There are several photographers who inspire me, some of whom include: Peter Lindbergh, Dominique Issermann, and Alexandra Nataf.
How would you define your creative style?
I absolutely love shooting film; I love how raw and imperfect it is. From there I really just follow my intuition and stay open to the inspiration that my subject naturally provides.
Where do you look for creative inspiration?
Museums and galleries are two of my favorite places. They don’t need to uniquely be photography-focused, just art in general.
I also love collecting fashion, music, and photography books which I refer back to depending on my mood.
