Intercru: Where are you from?

Dominik: I’m from Germany. My hometown is a small village near Dresden. I shoot my stuff in Berlin, Leipzig, and Dresden.

Where do you live and work now?

I live near Dresden for now. My plan is to get a small flat in the city. My workplace is in Dresden too.

How did you get started in photography?

That’s a hard question to be honest. I think a number of coincidences and the right people led me to it.

I’ll try to keep this short: One day I got an old camera from my family and I decided to take it with me to take some photos instead of using my smartphone like everyone else. That same day I fell in love with it.

What’s the most challenging part about photography for you?

I think the effort to become better and better is the most challenging part. Take photos, find locations, and edit the final pictures is the one thing- this needs a lot of time and exercise to get a routine.

But to be satisfied with your own work and to find your own style can last much longer and is the most challenging part in my opinion.

In 3 words, how would you describe your work?

That’s a hard question too. I don’t think I have this one, unique style. I try out a lot. My first thought would be: “FULL OF EMOTIONS.”

What advice would you give to anyone who wants to be a photographer?

Never do what others tell you to do. It’s important to take your time and to find your own style that you are happy with.

You can copy a look (setup and colors for example) in a few minutes, but finding your own style, your own imagery could take much longer. Photography is more than just taking good pictures. It’s all about meeting a lot of cool people and having a nice time together. That’s the most important thing in my opinion!
