Dámaris Sereno

“Everything that surrounds us can be a source of inspiration… I believe that the experiences and emotions of each person are also a source of inspiration”

Intercru: Where are you from? Where do you live and work now?

Dámaris: I am from Vitoria-Gasteiz, a city in the north of Spain.

I still live and work in Vitoria. It is a very beautiful and comfortable city. Besides that, I have made my life here and I am happy, that’s why I have never left. I do still think about moving one day, though, in order to grow my career in this field.

How did you get started as a model?

It all started when I was working in a supermarket in my city. I finished serving a client and suddenly a girl approached me. She told me that she and her partner were in the photography world and that I was the exact profile they were looking for to take some photos.

I remember coming home to tell my grandmother and she said, “Let’s see if they are going to kidnap you” hahaha. I understand her concern because at that time I knew as little about this world of photography as she did.

As a result of that session, I was able to contact more people in the industry from my city. They told me about female photographers from Madrid. At that time I was not aware that with photography I could travel and meet so many people.

Since then I have appeared in some advertising videos, I model for photography courses, and I have participated in campaigns for footwear, glasses, bags, and jewelry companies. And of course, I also do sessions on my own with friends or with photographers whose photography I admire.

Where do you find creative inspiration?

Everything that surrounds us can be a source of inspiration, from the internet, where we can see millions of photos, styles and different editions or even a ray of sunlight that sneaks into my room. Sometimes it is a style that leads me to the idea for a session, other times a place that has surprised me and I thought that some photos would look great there.

I believe that the experiences and emotions of each person are also a source of inspiration. Other times, however, it is the photographers themselves or the brand who come up with a fixed idea regarding styling, makeup, location, etc.

What do you like the most about being on a photoshoot?

There are many moments that I like. From starting to mold an idea from scratch and seeing what the whole team tries to contribute up to that moment when the photographer sees a photo, looks at me excitedly and says, “This is it.”

I also like the atmosphere that is created at the time of the shooting in which everyone works together on a common goal.

What is your favorite part of being a model?

I really like knowing people who work in the industry. I also like having an understanding of everything behind a session, a photo in a magazine, or even a television commercial.

I consider myself a very simple girl when it comes to dressing and yet in the sessions I really like to take on different roles and wear clothes that I would not normally wear on the street.

I also believe that in some way it has led me to live different experiences and has let me get to know myself better. It has also challenged me to do things that I had not tried before, such as joining a photographic camp or encouraging me to travel to a city to do different modeling jobs there.

What I keep most of these experiences (apart from the photos we take, of course) are the new friends and the special places we go to.
