“I used to love playing with my father’s analog cameras…Photography fascinated me from the start.”
Intercru: Where are you from? Where do you live and work now?
Alex: I was born in the beautiful city of Regensburg, where my studio is located. I usually work in major German cities like Berlin, Munich, etc.
How did you get started as a photographer?
I used to love playing with my father’s analog cameras. Then I bought my first digital camera. The reason was that I was going on a Caribbean tour back then. Photography fascinated me from the start.
What do you do to find creative inspiration?
I like magazines and I enjoy moving around a lot, observing, and remembering places that I could use for a shooting. I always pay attention to the lighting situation.
What’s your favorite part about photography?
Having the finished photo in your head is the game between several people. With every finished photo I made myself and others happy, if the result fits :-) I see myself most critically.
With the photos you make, what’s the main feeling or emotion you try to convey?
You have to differentiate a little, depending on the job. It is important for me to find a beautiful side of the person that comes across as great. I often see it differently than models or clients and they are often surprised afterwards because they can look good when you change smaller things like hair, clothing, etc.
In your opinion, what makes the perfect photo?
Of hundreds of photos, there is often “one look.” I will usually know very quickly that is a hit!! Many things play a role in fashion photography. Locations, hair, makeup etc. When everything interlocks you often get the perfect picture afterwards.
