“I love this job because in the images I create I always try to talk about myself but at the same time I hope to enhance and magnify the person I’m taking the photo of as well”
Intercru: Where are you from?
Alex: I was born and raised in Chieri, a small town near Turin, which is in northern Italy.
Where do you live and work now?
California is home now, and it has been for almost two years. It is beautiful here.
How did you get started in photography?
It started a few years ago: at the time, I was a frontman for a UK based band called Napoleon. We were touring Europe a lot and I started feeling the desire to document what was surrounding me, especially the people I was lucky enough to meet. So I picked up a cheap camera and I started pressing the shutter button since then...
What do you love the most about your job?
I love photography because each photograph is a strong, and often unconscious, stance towards the world. It’s the fruit of a decision. Each subject has a different point of view, which arises from what he has lived, learned, and seen in every moment of life.
I love this job because in the images I create I always try to talk about myself but at the same time I hope to enhance and magnify the person I’m taking the photo of as well. It’s such a good feeling when it succeeds.
What really makes you happy?
Seeing a smile on other people’s face, especially the ones I love.
What’s your proudest accomplishment?
I guess it’s that I’ve never settled for anything regarding myself. I always try to improve myself: to learn new things, to change for better, and to love more.
Who knows you the best?
My grandmother :) knows a lot about me, but Sara is my person, and she knows me the best.
In 3 words how would you describe yourself?
Think, breathe, exist (even though, it’s more of a constant reminder!).
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose?
I just got back from an amazing time in Hawai’i, so I might be a little biased. But I also have my eyes set on Alaska.
What advice would you give to other aspiring photographers?
There are some moments in life when fate shows up to point the right way. It doesn’t matter where you are, how old you are, what you are doing, or what your plans are for the future... if the desire to take another path is too strong it means that it is the right thing.
