“I try to make people more confident by giving positive vibes and highlighting their strengths. Sometimes we tend to only notice our weaknesses and focus only on those.”

Recently, Intercru partnered with lingerie brand Bare to create the Bare Women’s Series. The series will feature interviews with female photographers, models, artists, and entrepreneurs. Our subjects discuss everything from female empowerment to confidence to what they are working towards in their careers.

For the first article in the Bare Women’s Series, Italian photographer Elisa Angeletti did a photoshoot with the new product line from Bare. After, she spoke with us about what female empowerment means to her and how she finds confidence. The article is Elisa’s story in her own words.

In Bare’s words: “An empowered women is bold, inspiring, strong and fearless because she needs to be in order to make a difference and raise the status of all women around the world.”

Female empowerment is a topic that I have a particular interest in. This term includes alliance, personal growth, self-efficacy, and self-determination. Women often underestimate their abilities for many different reasons and it is only right that in today’s society we talk about issues that affect about 50% of the world. I consider myself lucky to live in a country where there are equal rights for men and women, which unfortunately is still not so obvious in the world. I consider myself a feminist because as Gloria Steinem, leader of feminism of the 60s and 70s, says: “A feminist is anyone who recognizes the equality and full humanity of women and men.”

This is not a topic that must concern only women but also men, as Barack Obama said: “It is absolutely men’s responsibility to fight sexism too. And as spouses and partners and boyfriends, we need to work hard and be deliberate about creating truly equal relationships.”

The qualities of an empowered woman are based primarily on strength and awareness. Empowered women promote gender equality and support between and for women. It’s a process of growth and empowerment to increase women’s sense of power and confidence in their own abilities. An empowered woman is an individually accomplished, strong, confident woman who knows how to assert her opinions without diminishing those of others.

I want my life to be made up of great experiences and no regrets. I want to live a full and satisfying existence, without feeling overwhelmed or mentally constrained. Being able to listen to all opinions and give good advice, in an evolved society free from stereotypes.

With my photography, I hope to accomplish greater confidence in myself and in my abilities. I like to give my own interpretation of reality and it makes me happy to know that there are people who want to be part of my projects and who want to be photographed by me.

Bare defines self-confidence as “being true to yourself, being comfortable with who you are but also knowing who you are.”

I believe that self-confidence is the basis of everything. It’s essential to recognize one’s potential and resources so as to be able to achieve goals.

It’s a personal strengthening that must be trained, like muscles in the gym, but by working on ourselves and achieving greater self-esteem and living better with others.

Feeling comfortable in your own skin means achieving a balanced mental and physical state. A healthy self-awareness leads us to feel comfortable with who we are. I don’t think it’s always easy in the society we live in today, which seeks to impose a utopian vision that is far from reality. It’s a constant and tortuous personal work but it’s right that everyone accepts themselves and that everyone doesn’t feel inadequate for stereotypes.

Having discovered my passion for photography was the first time that I felt truly confident in myself. At first, I only posted travel photos, self-portraits, friends and family on my personal profile, I’ve always liked to show something I had a passion for. Now that I’m starting to shoot more seriously, there are more responsibilities so I feel confident when I can organize the shootings well, manage unexpected situations without panicking and get shots that I am fully satisfied with.

I try to make people more confident by giving positive vibes and highlighting their strengths. Sometimes we tend to only notice our weaknesses and focus only on those. Before shooting I like to get to know the person in front of me to better understand his personality and to try to create an affinity.

During the shoots I like to focus on interesting details of the face or body. It comes naturally to me to comment positively, for example with “beautiful,” “amazing” etc. I think it puts people at ease in front of the lens and also instills greater self-confidence.
