Intercru: Where are you from?

Jo: I was born in Lower Austria and grew up there in a house with a garden on the countryside. This is where I got my bond with nature, which I still have and it’s even grown in the last few years.

When I turned 18 and finished school I moved to Vienna on my own. It was a huge change to live alone all of a sudden. I missed being surrounded by the green and I missed the silence. However, I’ve always loved Vienna and its flair and it didn’t take long until it became my 2nd home.

How did you get into modeling?

I’ve always loved posing and being in front of a camera. In 2015 my close friend Vali and I discovered our passion for photography and modeling.

Since then I’ve had many shootings with her and today she is a photographer. Some of our pictures got reposted by magazines, which was amazing, because we could reach so many more people (check out my story highlight “mag”).

From then on local talents started reaching out to me, seeing if I wanted to take pictures with them. I was able to meet amazing people and I loved that I could share my passion and creativity with others. So everything took its path and I’m doing more and more shootings. I’m so thankful for finding my passion and I hope that one day I can earn my living with modeling.

How would you consider your style as a model?

As you already know I have a strong bond to nature and this also reflects in my style as a model. If I’m my own make-up artist I always keep it simple and natural. The same applies to clothes.

However I’m also fascinated by fancy make-up looks and extraordinary fashion. When it comes to posing I try a lot of things. Sometimes very casual and simple, sometimes very dramatic or whatever the setting, clothes, or the location requires.

It’s almost impossible to describe ‘the one style’ that I have as a model, because you always have to work with the setting you are put in. It’s so important to work with the photographer, the location, the clothes etc. You have to fully get into the spirit of every particular shooting.

What's your favorite dessert?

I don’t have that much of a sweet tooth BUT I love Apfelstrudel. It’s an Austrian dessert made of puff pastry and apples. My mum always makes it with the apples from the apple tree in our garden.

Do you have any secret talents?

Why would I keep a talent secret? :)

If you could choose any superpower what would it be?

The answer to this one is so clear for me! If I could choose a superpower, it would be the ability to beam myself wherever I wanna go at any time. It would save so much time. However, I wouldn’t wanna miss long train rides! But one doesn’t exclude the other.

What's your favorite movie of all time?

Oh, how could I decide! I’m a fan of older movies. One of my favs is 10 Things I Hate About You

You can have a dinner with any two people in history (living or dead, famous or not)...who are they?

The first person that comes to my mind is my great-grandfather. I never got to know him but I’ve heard so many stories about him! I feel like we have a lot in common, because of everything he thought about photography and being creative. He took millions of pictures and made his own movies. We would’ve gotten along so well.

The second person would be Miley Cyrus, I guess. There’s not much of an explanation needed, I mean look at her haha. I think she has a great mind and spirit.

What's your favorite experience from a photoshoot?

My favorite experience from a photoshoot actually tells the story behind the photo series, which is presented here: One of my best friends - her name is Lini - and I were on vacation in Innsbruck, a city in Austria surrounded by mountains.

Lini always supports me when it comes to my career as a model. We’ve known each other for 7 years now BUT- and now comes the weird thing- it never occurred to us that we could shoot together. Lini and I also didn’t know about her talent as a photographer!

One day in Innsbruck I asked her if she could take a picture of me for my Insta Story and she did. The picture turned out so good, that from this moment on, we completely lost ourselves in taking pictures. It was the first time she was part of a shooting. Because of that, all these pictures were taken on an Iphone throughout our stay in Innsbruck in July 2020.

This experience tells the story of a passion that has been discovered and a friendship that has been upgraded to another level. I hope you enjoy the pictures and the story behind them.

Love, Jo
