Andrea Gil
Spanish artist Andrea Gil has found a passion making unique and creative collages. We interviewed Andrea about her work and inspirations in what she does.
“There’s something about the collage art that keeps me wanting to do more and more.”
Intercru: How did you get started with these types of collages?
Andrea: I’ve always been very interested in art in general. I’ve been making collages for many years already and doing a lot of illustrations, but there’s something about the collage art that keeps me wanting to do more and more.
I guess it all started in school but it got stronger in the past few years as a way to free my mind from work and get in touch with my artistic side.
What are some of your inspirations and influences for the type of art you do?
That would be Surrealism and Impressionism. I’ve always loved Dali and the universes he creates.
I love vintage photography as well, it’s very romantic in a sense and to have the power to make it more spectacular, it’s an amazing feeling.
What is the process you go through to create a new collage?
That’s an interesting question, it always changes. Sometimes it’s very easy, I find somewhere an interesting picture and the idea just pops in and I can’t stop until I finish the creation.
Other times it gets more complicated and it can take days. Sometimes I’m in the shower or making lunch and I think about an idea and I run away to write it down or make a little sketch.
What is the goal for the collages you make?
It all started as a hobby- I didn’t think it was going to get this popular to be honest but I have great plans for it. I would love one day to do an exposition with all my collages and enjoy the experience.
