“Do you remember the time when you were a kid and you were waiting for Christmas day? I’m that kid every time I wait for my film to come back.”
Intercru: Where are you from?
Radka: I’m from Slovakia from a small city called Senica.
Where are you living/working now?
Currently, I live in Prague but I kinda like to move around so I’m already thinking where to move next.
What got you into photography?
I guess it started when I was little and we used to experiment with my friend and do photoshoots. In high school I took a photography classes one semester and that was the first time I got introduced to analog photography. But it was just a few years back when I got my first analog camera in a random thrift shop in Denmark and since then I was just in love with analog.
After that I went treasure hunting to my grandparents house and took every analog camera I could possibly find and so I’ve been playing around with analog since. Honestly, sometimes I feel like I have no clue of what I’m doing but the pictures turn out okay somehow.
What do you love about skateboarding and skate culture? Do you skate yourself?
Haha well…I would say I’m the forever beginner. I mean I do skate, but still trying to get that proper Ollie.
I’ve always liked all board sports so I started to learn how to skate when I moved to Barcelona 2 years ago. Skateboarding might seem easy but it’s completely the opposite. A lot of my friends are skaters and some of them could skate 24/7. I loved to watch them skate because you watch them to do something they love.
The thing I like the most is that in the skate community it doesn’t matter from which country you are coming from or how you look like, the only thing that matters is your passion. When you go to a skatepark and you are trying to learn, no one will make fun of you but actually they will try to help you to get better.
Where do you find inspiration for your photography?
It might sound cliche but I think the inspiration is everywhere around us. Sometimes the ideas come just when I see some spot and I already have the shot in my head. My friends might get annoyed because when it comes to that they have to go and pose but I mean at least they will have a cool picture haha.
I also get inspired from other photographers on Pinterest and Instagram. Here are some of my favorite accounts:
How would you describe your photographic style?
I think I’m still looking for it. I would like to get more into skate and surf photography because it’s more challenging since the timing is essential. However, it’s kinda hard for me at the moment since Prague is not really surrounded by an ocean.
I guess I have these periods which are still shifting. When I travel I love to take pictures of strangers because of the unknown story of each of them. I think I still have a lot to explore until I find my own style.
What is your favorite thing about analog photography?
Do you remember the time when you were a kid and you were waiting for Christmas day? I’m that kid every time I wait for my film to come back. It’s just simply exciting to receive your scans and then find one or two or sometimes the entire roll to just blow you away.
With analog you cannot just point and shoot, you have to think but at the same time it’s natural and the outcome is always a surprise. There is nothing wrong with digital, but with analog you just need to feel it.
