Peter Soulis
“I want my subjects to feel proud and beautiful as themselves and in their own skin”
Intercru: Where are you from? Where do you live/work now?
Peter: I was born and bred in Melbourne, Australia. I also currently reside here as the majority of my clients are from Melbourne, though I do travel back and forth to other states for work. Not so much these days though due to Covid.
How did you first get into photography?
I have always loved photography for a long time, though I never pursued it.
It wasn’t until 2011 when I decided to quit my full-time job in IT and started to pursue my career as a photographer. My late sister told me to go for it and if it fails, then I can always go back to IT, but it’s been 9 years on and still going, so I am pretty happy with that.
What is the feeling you like to express with your creative work?
A sense of empowerment. I want my subjects to feel proud and beautiful as themselves and in their own skin. A very raw and honest aesthetic.
Where do you find inspiration for your work?
Pretty much everywhere. Looking at light, listening to music, watching movies, or going through magazines.
What’s your favorite part about photography and going on photoshoots?
Being able to bring to life ideas in a photograph and also meeting and working with like-minded creatives and creating magic together.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received about photography?
Learn to understand light. Probably the most important thing you need to learn. Well that’s my opinion. :)
